Continuing our series of articles about IMAS (Murcian Institute of Social Action), we would now like to discuss the aid available to people with disabilities. These are granted to individuals recognised by this entity as having a disability level equal to or greater than 33%, and they include:

Non-contributory pension

Individuals affected by disability or chronic illness at a level equal to or greater than 65% may receive a non-contributory pension from IMAS. The requirements are that the applicant is under 65 years of age (at the time of application), that they have legally resided in Spanish territory for five years, two of which must be immediately preceding the date of the application, and that they do not have sufficient income or resources.

Tax Benefits

  • Exemption from vehicle registration tax when purchasing a new vehicle.
  • Exemption from road tax.
  • Deductions in income tax returns.
  • Reduced VAT rates for vehicle adaptation and/or wheelchairs.

Housing

  • Subsidy in the loan amortisation fee and non-refundable subsidy.
  • Aid for housing acquisition.

Healthcare Assistance

  • Healthcare and pharmaceutical assistance for people with disabilities who do not have the right to healthcare from the Spanish Social Security system.

Employment Assistance

  • Social Security contribution discounts and subsidies for companies who hire people with disabilities.
  • Job position adaptation.
  • Grants for self-employed individuals.
  • Certificate of capabilities for job seeking purposes.

Transportation (Various Applications)

  • Parking permit (blue badge) for people with reduced mobility or low vision.
  • Taxi voucher (municipality of Murcia): aimed at people with disabilities and mobility issues to finance their taxi trips. Maximum annual amount of €600 in 2024.
  • Mobility subsidy and compensation for transportation expenses (nationwide). Provides a monthly aid of €78.20/month in 2024 (with minimum income requirement).

Travel / mobility

RENFE Gold Card: various discounts depending on dates and routes.

 

Additionally, each year this agency has a period where you are able to request personalised aid to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. These include:

  • Elimination of architectural barriers and adaptation of single-family homes:
  1. Bathtub to shower conversion: up to €2,500
  2. Door widening: up to €2,000
  3. Ramp: up to €1,500
  • Installation of lift platform/stairlift: up to €7,000
  • Motor vehicle adaptation: up to €5,000
  • Cochlear implant accessories/spare parts: up to €1,000
  • 1 Hearing aid: up to €2,000 / 2 Hearing aids: up to €4,000
  • Dental treatment: up to €2,000 / Dental treatment with implants: up to €3,000
  • Bath/shower chair with headrest: up to €1,300
  • Electric lift with harness: up to €1,300
  • Electric/adjustable bed (includes adjustable mattress, articulated mattress, and side rails): up to €1,200
  • Glasses (maximum 1 unit): up to €500
